ConnectTime Broadband Phone - Manual
Welcome to ConnectTime Broadband Phone service!
North Pittsburgh Telephone Company is expanding your calling coverage by linking voice and data with ConnectTime Broadband Phone service.
Your ConnectTime Broadband Phone service uses the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology to send your phone calls across the North Pittsburgh IP network using your existing ConnectTime DSL connection and the provided Cisco Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA).
Included in your ConnectTime Broadband Phone kit:
- Cisco Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA)
- Power cord
- 5V Power adapter
- Ethernet cable
The ATA can be used to connect one analog telephone to the ConnectTime Broadband Phone network. DO NOT connect any device to the Phone 2 port on the rear panel of the ATA.
The ATA is intended for use only with the 5V power adapter included with this kit.
Installation Requirements
- An available power outlet
- A wired or cordless telephone
- A router configured as a DHCP server
- An available LAN Ethernet port on your router
Installation of the ATA
- Place the ATA near an electrical power outlet where your router is located.
- Connect the end of your telephone line cord to the Phone 1 port on the rear panel of the ATA. DO NOT connect any device to the Phone 2 port on the rear panel of the ATA.
- Connect one end of the supplied Ethernet cable to the 10BaseT port on the rear panel of the ATA.
- Connect the other end of the supplied Ethernet cable to an available LAN Ethernet port on your router.
- Attach the socket end of the power cord to the 5V power adapter.
- Connect the power adapter cable into the 5V power connector on the ATA.
- Connect the plug end of the power cord into an electrical power outlet.
When the ATA is properly connected and powered up, the green activity LED [labeled ACT] located on the back of the ATA will flash to indicate network activity. The oval function button should flash red several times and then go out.
If the oval function button located on the top of the ATA blinks slowly, the ATA cannot get an address from your router. Check your Ethernet connections and make sure your router is configured for DHCP.
To make a call, lift your telephone handset and place a call as you normally do. The function button lights when you pick up the handset of the telephone attached to the ATA.
If the function button flashes quickly the ATA is upgrading its configuration. Please wait until the button stops flashing to make a call.
Caution: Do not cover or block the air vents on either the top or the bottom surface of the Cisco ATA. Overheating can cause permanent damage to the unit.
Power-Down Procedure
If at any point you need to power down the ATA, use the following power-down procedure to prevent damage to the ATA.
- Unplug the Ethernet cable.
- Wait for 20 seconds.
- Unplug the power cable.
Troubleshooting Tips
- If the green activity LED [labeled ACT] located on the back of the ATA is not flashing after you connect the Ethernet cable, make sure that both the power cord and the Ethernet cable are connected securely.
- If there is no dial tone, make sure the telephone line cord is plugged into the Phone 1 port on the ATA. Test another phone with the ATA. If another phone also does not provide a dial tone, there may be a problem with the ATA or the configuration of the ATA. Please contact Technical Support to further troubleshoot your service.
- A busy tone indicates that the party you called is not available. A fast busy tone indicates that you dialed an invalid number.
